Climbing Bear is a salute to the modern day Cherokee stomp dancer. He is dressed in the traditional Cherokee ribbon shirt and a breechcloth. His deerhide moccassins are patterned after the Cherokee center seamed style. The custom loomed beadwork that Climbing Bear wears was created by Mandy Brixey, Margaret’s neice. Climbing Bear’s necklace features a turtle rosette, which signifies the creature that lives longest upon the Earth. His leggings are made of possum hides collected in the Winter. Climbing Bear’s hair is fox, rabbit, and goat. The peyote gourd rattle that he carries is decorated with bear hair.
